Rejoice
We know we were made for holiness. We know that we need to shine our light. But what if we don’t have any light to shine? What if we can’t find our light at all?
Not to worry – we’ve been given directions. Some of them are challenging, some of them may seem out of reach at times, but all of them are there to help us get where we need to go.
Today’s verses reminds us what our attitude should be. No matter what.
Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! (Phil 4:4)
This one is easy when we have something to celebrate, but that’s not what it says is it? It says "Always". In the good times and the bad. In the comfort and in the struggle. Rejoice because God is doing wondrous things.
Or He can if we will let Him.
It’s hard as you are battling an illness, dealing with a difficult child, struggling in your marriage, or insecure about your future. What is there to rejoice about in that?
If we follow the rest of the passage we can see:
The Lord is near. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Phil 4:5-8)
We have someone to go to in those moments. We can let go of the worry and stress that makes all those things so much worse. When we are filled with Christ’s peace, we can more easily see the path that is laid before us.
Let go. Let God. It’s a thing, and it works.
